MEL - which stands for “Medicina E Lavoro” (Medicine and Work) – is an integrated medical centre able to provide business services relating to all manner of health care activities which regard occupational medicine.
The company was set up in order to respond to the growing demand for more thorough and systematic risk prevention and safety measures in the workplace, and specifically to ensure comprehensive, consistent compliance with the requisites of Italian Legislative Decree number 626/94 and subsequent amendments.
Issues regarding effective measures to eliminate or to reduce workplace risks and work-related illnesses and are now fully recognised as one of the challenges involved in the running of any enterprise, company or firm, be it private or public.
MEL’s organisational structure is characterised by an interdisciplinary, coordinated system of human resources (specialist doctors, professional nurses, specialised technicians), experiences and procedures. Over the years, this system has become increasingly adept at offering continuous health care for an extremely wide, diverse range of private and public enterprises.
MEL currently operates out of two medical establishments, in both of which there are a number of specialists able to deal with the most pressing need for health checks, not only by carrying out general checks aimed at ascertaining an individual/worker’s overall condition, but also by looking into all those chemical, biological and physical factors which may potentially cause the worker problems.
The new Skill Centre within the Kilometro Rosso Science and Technology Park makes it possible to extend and augment Research & Development activities, thus adding quality and a more integrated approach to a system which is of fundamental importance to promote and to maintain the highest possible level of physical, mental and social wellbeing among workers in all fields. The first step towards this is the integration of the skill centre with the contact centre, in order to provide an immediate response to companies’ requests regarding workplace safety and occupational medicine issues.
