Università degli Studi di Bergamo (www.unibg.it)
Founded in 1968, the University of Bergamo has a total of 12 departments in 6 faculties, located across three campuses in Bergamo, Dalmine and Treviglio. The course portfolio includes 16 Three-Year Degrees, 18 Specialised Degrees, 27 PhDs based at the University and numerous Masters courses. The university is currently constructing a fourth site within the Kilometro Rosso Science Park: this new building will focus on innovation, research and development, business, HR and inter-disciplinary and internationalisation initiatives.
The new site’s activities encompass:
- ‘Entrepreneurial Lab’, which provides specialist, ongoing training for holders of a first degree in Entrepreneurial Economics on researching and developing a new business culture, as well as an Observatory on business performance in collaboration with the Bocconi University of Milan and a ‘business incubator’ for academic spin-offs in collaboration and synergy with the incubation activities of the Kilometro Rosso Science Park.
- Mechatronics: a Mechatronics Lab in which to conduct fundamental research and simulations geared towards the integration and completion of the activities of the Mechatronics Centre of Excellence that was launched by the Intellimech Consortium.
- Bioengineering: focusing on innovative biomaterials, artificial prosthetics and surgical support systems.
This ‘Inter-departmental and Inter-disciplinary Centre’ is the ideal fusion of the University’s training and educational activities, delivering effective cross-pollination between the various faculties and disciplines.
The collaboration between the Kilometro Rosso Science Park and the University of Bergamo also includes the following operations:
- The making available of high-level training, research, expertise, tools and services by the Science Park for the benefit of the University of Bergamo.
- Shared research programmes on technical, scientific and business matters at regional, national and international level, in order to promote synergies, disseminate information and boost the competitiveness of the local economic system.
- Exchange of information on potential project and research partners, and joint participation on R&D projects, including those on the themes proposed in the requests for tenders issued by the regional, national and international authorities.
