Brembo S.p.a. was the first company to set up its headquarters in the Kilometro Rosso science and technology park. Its new laboratories and research centres, designed by the Atelier Jean Nouvel, are located in the western area of the park. They consist of elongated buildings that sit perpendicularly to the alignment of the red wall, and are covered in a skin of operable glass louvers. The project has been rationally designed, starting from the cylindrical reception; this upwards-thrusting structure is wedged into the red wall, and becomes the pivot around which various flows are marshalled. The lifts and circular staircase in it connect with the rue corridor which runs horizontally; the latter is created out of the broad thickness of the wall, together with other linear spaces, which house the Brembo showroom (on the ground floor) and cafeteria (first floor). Two bridges which depart from the wall lead to the upper levels of the longitudinal structures, which are used for offices and laboratories, while the ground floor houses open-space research and manufacturing labs. The choice of materials and colours used throughout the interiors are intended to convey a rigorous aesthetic: the solidity of the exposed reinforced concrete used on the perimeter walls contrasts with the lightness and transparency of the screen-printed glass partition walls, which divide the offices and guarantee visual continuity towards the park around the building.
