RIGENER-AM is a project designed to promote circular economy practices within the manufacturing sector. Its mission is to transform industrial waste – both metallic and textile – into high-value, next-generation materials for Additive Manufacturing (industrial 3D printing). This is not a simple recycling process, but a regeneration approach: waste is turned into advanced alloys and polymers with performance properties that surpass the original materials. In doing so, the project contributes to reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing processes while strengthening the competitiveness of one of Lombardy’s key industrial sectors.
Supported by Regione Lombardia with a subsidized loan of €2 million, on a total budget of approximately €4 million, RIGENER-AM stands as a virtuous example of sustainable innovation, combining research, technological development, and real-world industrial applications.
Create new metal alloys and polymer compounds from metallic and textile waste
Develop innovative, high-value-added materials with a low environmental footprint
Integrate computational design strategies to optimize production
Validate solutions through functional and structural testing for industrial applications
Expand the applicability of results to other sectors such as aerospace, construction, and sports
Project duration: 26 months
October 2025: Launch of research activities
March 2026: Study and treatment of materials for AM
January 2027: Production of the first prototypes
May 2027: Prototype validation testing and quality control
November 2027: Project conclusion and final results
As a Science and Technology Park, Kilometro Rosso plays a central role in the RIGENER-AM project. In addition to coordinating the partnership, it facilitates the transfer of research results to the production system, fosters collaboration among stakeholders, and ensures that innovation does not remain confined to laboratories but becomes a real driver of regional development. Its mission is to enhance RIGENER-AM’s potential as a model of sustainable innovation and accelerate its impact on Lombardy’s enterprises and the future of manufacturing.
